This is your opportunity to talk about "Visit Witney"... Why visitors should come to our town, what's nice about Witney and what is not, what could be done to improve the town for visitors and give them an even better experience, the ways that residents might benefit (or for that matter not benefit), how Witney compares with other similar towns... The floor is entirely yours!
We have deliberately not started with lots of photographs and descriptions of the best-known Witney sites and sights, because we do not wish to lead the conversation... but wish the direction to come from you. So you are very welcome to add any and all photographs etc to your posts to help make your points, and we will build galleries to illustrate how we all see Witney as the conversation develops.
To help keep things as easy to follow as possible, we have set out some 'categories', and invite your posts, and comments on those posts, exactly as you please.
And now, over to you... Please log in and kick off!
The signage for the town needs a complete overhaul and it needs to start on the edges of the town and provide a journey into the town, it also needs to be geared to all forms of travel. It starts on the main roads into the town which should take a leaf out of France’s approach and have some big cultural/historic signage on the main roads particularly the A40. The mills and blanket factories could be the theme. We then need signage as you enter the town itself showing the key areas (parking, shopping, eating out and cultural/historical/points of interest. Then as you get off the buses or exit car parks there needs to be more detailed maps showing the areas of the town and this should integrate perfectly with directional signage to help people get around the town. All signage seems to require approval by a heritage committee this needs to be dealt with as it is impacting the ability to implement an impactful integrated seamless system of signs and information boards to maximise visitors experience of the town.
This is more what i was meant, these are amazing :)
I had a recent trip to Glasgow, and was amazed by the signage on the floors the walls everywhere, telling the history of the place or building, the name of the man who laid the stone etc, fascinating and thought provoking, what a wonderful idea.
Yes, signage, maps and historic details need to be updated, perhaps on an interim basis immediately and then again depending on whether any additional ‘improvements’ are made to attract visitors to the town.
