This is your opportunity to talk about "Visit Witney"... Why visitors should come to our town, what's nice about Witney and what is not, what could be done to improve the town for visitors and give them an even better experience, the ways that residents might benefit (or for that matter not benefit), how Witney compares with other similar towns... The floor is entirely yours!

We have deliberately not started with lots of photographs and descriptions of the best-known Witney sites and sights, because we do not wish to lead the conversation... but wish the direction to come from you. So you are very welcome to add any and all photographs etc to your posts to help make your points, and we will build galleries to illustrate how we all see Witney as the conversation develops.

Who do we want to attract?

in Special interests

If it’s coach trips, then what will they come for, where will they go?

If it’s young family day trippers, what will they do all day? Where will they eat?

If it’s long weekend holidayers, where will they stay, where will they eat and what will they do when they’re here?

Could Witney be a rest stop for ramblers? Does it appear as such in published walks?

I guess the thing to think about is... What do we look for when we go to a small interesting looking town? And see if there are any common threads...

Well, it will depends on the demographic as to what they look for, so you have to decide what would be the easiest to achieve and is likely to bring the most visitors.

Personally, as a ‘tourist’ I look for interesting history and architecture, varied places to sit, eat, drink and browse, but usually there has to be ‘something’ to draw me there in the first place. It’s nice to be able to move around the town, without having to constantly cross roads to get to the next place you want to visit and for all the main amenities to be within easy reach of each other. If there’s water nearby, then it’s nice to be able to sit and enjoy a coffee or an icecream.

I’m not looking for high street shops, hairdressers or charity shops, and although those in moderation are necessary for a town the size of Witney, other Cotswolds/small towns don’t have them in the abundance that we do.

If you ask a family though, they will want something different and perhaps so would those who are retired. Marketing would need to be very carefully considered for each of your target demographics.
