Witney Chamber of Commerce

Invites everyone to consider:

How Witney might benefit from more visitors
and
What might attract visitors to Witney

Conversation guidelines

  •   'Visitors' are not just foreign tourists, holiday-makers, night-stay visitors... Visitors also include everyone from outside Witney (whether a mile or 1000 miles outside!) who come to Witney (rather than to any other town), to explore the sights, shop, drink coffee, see a lawyer, pray in church, play a sport, dance the night away... Or for any other reason whatsoever!

  •   Witney Chamber of Commerce (WCC) acknowledges with thanks all the work done by others in connection with looking at the issues involved with 'Visit Witney'.

  •   WCC are pleased to work with any and all organisations to further reasearch 'Visit Witney'.

  •   Any compliment, suggestion, comment, and/or complaint about the management of 'Visit Witney' is very welcome, and can be directed to WCC at chair@witneychamber.org

  •   Everyone who lives and/or works in or around Witney is warmly invited to take part in all of the discussions and activities detailed on this website.

  •   Please feel free to post and comment, and upload photographs, videos, and any other material and links that will better explain your idea, or comment on other posts.

  •   Unlike some other consultations, Witney Chamber of Commerce has tried to make this one absolutely undirected and unbiased.

  •   All ideas, thoughts, and comments will be considered and incorporated into 'Visit Witney', as the project develops.

  •   We ask those who post to the Conversation to register only so we can make contact if any ideas need further discussion: no personal information will be passed to any third party.

  •   Those who register, and choose to follow 'conversation' categories or posts, will also get email notification of any relevant new posts and comments.

  •   Photographs and other media posted to this site may well be used to illustrate aspects of the 'Visit Witney' project as it develops.

  •   From time to time WCC might ask questions and conduct surveys on the conversation pages, all the better  to understand the ideas that are being posted and how popular these ideas might be. Please assist with this process.

On the discussion pages, the categories are:

  • Exploring: walking, signage, views, guidebooks

  • History: places, buildings, people, traditions

  • Hospitality: eating, drinking, resting, nightlife

  • Facilities: shopping, sports, culture

  • Geography: getting here, getting away, transport, parking

  • Special interests: different age-groups, particular associations

  • Comparisons: learning from other places

  • Benefits: ... and disbenefits of encouraging visitors

It will be quite likely that the same topic will be taken up under more than one category.

When posting and commenting on the discussion pages, please consider these guidelines:

  •   Involve: Take part, and encourage others

  •   Suggest: If you have an idea, please share it

  •   Debate: Explore the pros and cons with evidence

  •   Explain: Comment "Yes, because..." (or "No, because...")

  •   Connect: Remember: "I have an idea, together we have a project!"

Many thanks... And please come back often. For if we don't all contribute to the conversation, there can be no 'Visit Witney'.
