So, what's Witney all about then?

We do not in any way wish to 'steer the ship', and that is why we haven't started with pretty photographs and catchy slogans... Unlike other consultations, we have tried to make this one absolutely undirected and unbiased! We would like all the ideas to come from those who take part in the conversation. So all we offer to set things in motion is this list of completely random posts from Facebook and other pages, entries in various visitor books, and chance 'overhearings'...

  • You can spend a day drinking coffee from one end of the town to the other!

  •   You can easily travel from Witney to Woodstock and visit the picture-perfect Blenheim Palace

  • An easy and convenient place to go shopping - whether for groceries, eye check ups, shoes, music, cards, post office, coffee and stationery items.

  •   No nasty people here like you can find in Abingdon and Oxford.

  • All very light stone which gave a lovely light feel to the space. 

  •   There are lots of green spaces to enjoy, including the Leys with it's adventure golf and play area

  • Amazing huge free car park in Witney.

  •   The largest market town in the Cotswolds, Witney’s architecture reflects its past prosperity from the wool trade.

  • Witney is an ideal place to base your stay in the Cotswolds

  •   The gateway to the Cotswolds.

  • Lots of coffee shops and a Waitrose supermarket at the end of the shopping centre.

  •   Loved the Waitrose and further down the road a Marks and Spencers.

  • Just a short walk from the town centre, across the water meadow, lies Cogges, an historic farmstead with a fascinating story.

  •   The town has a charming, bustling atmosphere with its unique blend of shops and cafes, including the recently restored Blanket Hall and Pie Shop

  • Elsewhere are a camera shop, two computer repair shops.

  •   A nice shopping centre which is partly under cover.

  • Witney seems to be doing well if a little behind the times.

  •   A lovely centre with an interesting and slightly different range of shops. 

  • Been local to Oxfordshire for 50 years & never been to Witney.

  •   A varied shopping experience including the Marriotts Walk shopping development, pubs, restaurants, and leisure facilities at The Witney Lakes resort.

  • Booked a few nights in a hotel in this village. Plenty of places to eat. Small market selling fresh produce.

  •   The quaint Witney and District Museum offers visitors an insight into the history of the town and the Blanket Trail is a fantastic way to explore the town at your own pace.

  • The most amazing Teddy bear shop, woollen blanket shops etc.

  •   Free parking... What more do you need?

  • Cogges Manor Farm, is a hidden gem at the heart of

  •   Woolgate was OK: a smart precinct with lots of shops few if any catering to me however.

  • Witney offers plenty to do both during the day and evening and is perfectly located for exploring the Cotswolds and historic Oxford.

  •   Witney offers all of the facilities you would expect to find in a town of its size.

  • A market and plenty of annual festivals.

  •   Beware of very enthusiastic traffic wardens.

  • Was very impressed on getting off the Pulhams' Bus.

  •   So many arcades, alleys, and courts to explore... And all off the magnificent High Street.

  • The town has a bustling  atmosphere.

  •   Surrounded by stunning countryside, Witney lies on the edge of the Cotswolds, just 15 miles west of Oxford. 

  • Much bigger place than I imagined... And in a nice way!

  •   An attractive high street runs from the Butter Cross and features the 18th century town hall, the Blanket Hall and the Victorian Corn Exchange.
